Home exchange in California – Il Rifugio means “The Refuge” in Italian. That’s because this home is truly a refuge for all of us.
A “Rifugio” is a mountain hut or lodge, often in the middle of nowhere, offering hospitality to hikers in the Italian mountains. When I was a little girl, I loved hiking from Rifugio to Rifugio. When I arrived at a Rifugio, I always felt like I was home!
This is what this home is: a place that feels far away, yet it is close to everything in San Diego, and it is home, a place for rest and renewal.
Our mostly flat garden offers plenty of areas for your quiet contemplation of how awesome it really is to live here rather than in a tiny apartment, listening to your neighbors’ noises and car honking their horns while passing by.

- We do not like clutter and we try to keep the house clean and tidy at all times, especially in the common areas. We like to keep it simple!
- No smoking allowed on the property.
- Also, we avoid chemicals and use earth-friendly products for cleaning the house and personal use. We are professional, educated, globe-trotters, and cosmopolitan.
A pond to catch rainwater and a few permaculture projects are just about to sprout…

We proudly host Couchsurfers, Voluntourists, and world travelers, and offer warm showers to bicycle wanderers for free. Come on in!

Help for a few days or one-week wedding/organic gardening, house cleaning (only environmentally cleaning products) and vegetarian cooking.
Benefits
Half hour from the beach. You get your own big and nice room, or complete privacy in a detached tiled barn.
Helping hours
3 hours a day of work exchange.
Requisites
You must be an absolute non-smoker and have your own car (no public transport nearby).
